It's missing the nearly iconic glossy black bezel that has become such an expectation on Samsung displays, but the SyncMaster 2494HS would still be welcome at our cluttered work desk. The 23.6-inch panel sports an all-business, matte black motif with a native 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, 300 nits of brightness, a 5-millisecond response time, 50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, inbuilt stereo speakers and DVI / VGA / HDMI inputs. The LCD is expected to go on...

Humax told us that its awfully cute 320GB Freesat+ Foxsat-HDR would be on sale this month, and sure enough, it's filtering into quality retailers across the UK. According to T3, users looking for "free" high-def via Freesat+ can waltz on into John Lewis, Comet, Argos or Dixons in order to trade £299 for the box you see pictured above. From there, you'll also need to grab a dish, an HDTV and an installer, but those are just details, right?

  • Sharp is looking at a 10% reduction in flat screen production in its overseas factories, a reaction to the cooling economy and a recent lawsuit for price fixing. 50-inch LCD prices have dropped six perecent since October and Sharp’s own index fell to 12%. Don’t worry, though: LCDs should hit $110.8 billion in 2012 after we [...]

  • There is no doubt that the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 and 12 are hot netbooks, but the standard digs are just a little too Dell. You know what we mean. Even the new pink and red models are still a bit pedestrian. But these new lid designs will certainly scream, “Look at me! I have a sweet [...]

  • Apple experienced significant stock growth thanks to the iPhone, but even Steve Jobs & Co. are susceptible to the financial doldrums. The entire tech sector is chill’n on the poop shelf and Apple’s stock is following the crowd down the hole. For the first time since January 9, 2007 - the iPhone launched on the 10th - AAPL is below $85 [...]

  • How?s this for ingenuity? USA! USA! USA! In what can only be described as the ultimate in convergence devices, some guy on eBay is selling a Wii with a Nintendo 64 cartridge slot that actually plays real games. What?s most impressive, I suppose, is that the whole thing looks pretty natural with the slight exception [...]

  • I'm tired of this. This sense of permanent discomfort with the technology around me. The bugs. The compromises. The firmware upgrades. The "This will work in the next version." The "It's in our...

  • From AMD's upcoming chip roadmaps we know the Phenom II is due out early next year, and it's AMD's second 45nm chip, but in a recent show and tell session AMD demonstrated the "overhead" built into...

  • Say what you want about robots being our future overlords and all that, but we think they're really just here to boogie. I mean, if all you wanted to do was get your groove on but some engineer kept programming you to scare prisoners or little children, you might go looking for a little payback too, right? Thankfully there's MechRC, a 17-servo kit newly available in the Americas that, despite his menacing visage, should do wonders to sooth human-robot relations through a vast array of funky...

  • No, you're not looking at some high-precision, multimeter-laden kegerator; the above is a picture from a recent AMD event in which things apparently got a little out of hand. The company started by talking up its upcoming Dragon platform (Phenom II X4, Radeon 4800 graphics, and 7-series chipset), took a few moments to discuss how its new 45nm chips will use 30-50 percent less power than their predecessors, and then threw all notions of sensibility out the window in an attempt to see just how...
